About this Image:
This lithograph is part of an untitled pair, drawn from photographs of Simonova’s dear friend Naoko. They investigate the quiet in a moment just before a departure. Simonova utilized lithographic crayons to blacken the surface of the stone and razor blades to delicately pull out the details and contours of the figure. In certain places, the start and stop marks of the crayon can be seen in the velvet blackness of the hair.
Artist Bio:
Simonova is a Bulgarian born artist living and working in New York City. She is works primarily in graphite on paper and has also discovered a love for print media. Her work stems from the ephemeral nature of memory and her cultural and physical dislocation as an artist.
