Artist, printmaker, and publisher Glen Baldridge presents a selection of new works on paper; zig-zagging between processes, rolling up the co-opting of counter culture by mainstream media and the idolization of adolescent posturing with a healthy dose of sardonic wit.  Always pushing the technical and conceptual envelope, these new works represent the past nine months of Baldridge’s collaboration with Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, Forth Estate, and Dieu Donne Paper Mill’s Master Printers and Master Paper Makers.  Baldridge’s paper works hold up a cultural mirror, reflecting our collective addiction to the internet, infomercials, and escapist entertainment.

Please join us for an artist talk with guest artist Barbara Foster. Foster is a printmaker whose work spans the traditional print process to drawing, digital photography, and mixed media or hybrid print processes. For the past fifteen years her work has been consistent in making the transition from digital prints with overlays of traditionally printed woodcuts toward larger scale monochromatic altered photographic images cut by hand and water jet, carbon printed photographs and direct drawing. The subject remains constant, photographic images of ordinary and extraordinary places, landscapes, and structures. Her most current work reflects the move toward black and white on Japanese paper, distorting the photographic image to create a frenetic feeling toward the subject, or warming the image with carbon printing to soften the monumentality of the subject.

Barbara Foster received her Bachelor of Arts from University of California Santa Barabara and her Masters of Art from San Francisco State University where she is currently a faculty member and serverd as Chair of the Art Department from 2006 - 2009. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is numerous public and private collections including Machida International Print Museum, Machida City, Japan, Frans Masereel Centrum Voor Grafiek, Ministry of Flemish Culture, Belgium, Santa Barbara Museum of Art and Mills College, Oakland, California.
