
Bookbinding

Create beautiful hand stitched artists books! In this workshop students will learn the basics of 2 different kinds of bookbinding: pamphlet and accordion. A history of books will be shown through samples and there will be discussions on how to bring together book structures with content in your artworks. Students are encouraged to bring their current book projects,a collection of prints they wish to turn into a book and decorative papers they would like to use for book covers.

Yasuyo Tanaka became involved in bookbinding and papermaking in 2000. She has worked as a book conservation technician at the libraries of New York Botanical Gardens and Union Theological Seminary as well as for independent artists and bookbinders. She has taught workshops and given lectures at Poznon Academy of Fine Art in Poland, Vilnius Graphic Arts Center in Lithuania, Tochigi Prefectural Museum in Japan, and the
Center for Book Arts in NYC.
